Built by Students at UW-Madison

Our Subteams.

Eight specialized groups working together to build a humanoid from scratch. Each subteam tackles a critical piece of the puzzle.

Hands & Arms (Hardware)

Designing and building the robot's manipulators and arms, including actuation, sensing, and physical interaction systems. We develop custom mechanisms that balance dexterity, strength, and weight to enable a wide range of real-world tasks.

Manipulation (Software)

Developing algorithms for grasping and object interaction, enabling dexterous and reliable manipulation in real-world environments. Our work spans motion planning, contact modeling, and learning-based approaches that generalize across diverse objects and tasks.

Legs & Locomotion

Creating stable and dynamic bipedal movement, from walking and running to navigating uneven terrain. We design and tune gaits that keep the robot balanced under varying speeds, payloads, and surface conditions.

Torso (Electrical)

Engineering the robot's core structure, balancing strength, weight distribution, and system integration. The torso serves as the mechanical backbone that ties together the arms, legs, and all onboard electronics into a cohesive platform.

Controls (Low-Level)

Implementing real-time control systems that coordinate motors and joints for smooth, stable motion. We work at the hardware interface layer, handling feedback loops, state estimation, and timing-critical code that runs on embedded systems.

Planning & Autonomy (ROS)

Building high-level behavior and motion planning systems, integrating perception and control through ROS. We develop the software architecture that allows the robot to reason about tasks, sequence actions, and adapt its behavior based on environmental feedback.

Perception & Vision

Enabling the robot to understand its environment through sensors, computer vision, and spatial reasoning. We process data from cameras and depth sensors to build representations of the world that downstream planning and manipulation systems can act on.

Operations

Managing recruiting, partnerships, logistics, and team coordination to keep everything running smoothly. We handle the organizational infrastructure that lets technical subteams focus on building, from onboarding new members to securing the resources the team needs.
